Once in a lifetime a person is offered the chance to become the steward of a special boat. Rarely in this day and age will you find a boat built in this fashion. From the selected knees to the Huon Pine Hull, every aspect of this boat says quality. Sadly for the current owner, age has made the decision inevitable, providing an opportunity to become the next custodian of 'Island Bess'.
Every care has been taken to ensure that she is ready for sea at all times and the fact that she was awarded the 'Best Found Boat' at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club is testimony to that. Two years ago all the antifoul was removed and the hull taken back to bare timber. Last year the deck was re-caulked by Master Shipwright - Chris Ratcliffe, who also painted the hull. She has just been anti-fouled and the bulwarks and cover boards taken back to bare timber and painted.
The photos will tell the rest of the story. More information will be provided on request, suffice to say that Island Bess is a unique vessel in an age of plastic. She is insured for $100,000 but all sensible offers will be considered. Please note - 'Island Bess' is still available if listed.
